I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to visit Philippines (Caloocan & Tarlac) twice in two consecutive years. I was drawn to visit a second time because I was greatly captured by the smiles and joy on the children’s faces. I was inspired by the simplicity of their culture and the value they placed on relationships. Despite living a simple life with poor living conditions, I was greatly touched by their passion and love towards God through singing, dancing and worship. By living the way they lived and experiencing the lifestyle in Philippines, greatly made me treasure joy and happiness that comes from the simple things in life. I assisted with face painting during the fun fairs we held in both cities. I was touched to see the amount of children who were so eager to come join us and was even surprised to see children holding balloons with face paint remaining on their faces in the following two days. Every time I walked by the in village, the children were normally playing together, sometimes with a little dirt, rocks and items they could find lying on the floor. Their laughter and happiness during the time they spent with us really encouraged me. They valued the small things in life and found joy and excitement in the experiences and relationships they have with God and with each other – this attitude is one of the many take away lessons I have gained on both trips.
